Windsor Castle Enthralling History:
The history of Windsor can be found lying in the early seventh century Saxon hamlet of Windlesora, where the present day community of Old Windsor is located. The town of Windsor is correctly well-known as the “New Windsor” - the actual phrase “new” being taken in a strictly loose way!
Windsor Castle was firstly assembled by the illustrious William the Conqueror, on account of his attack of England in ten sixty six. The original construction was built from lumber with earth ramparts. Palace held a noticeable tactical location on a tall mound above the River Thames, & was a division of a group of fortresses all around the City, with the Tower of London, one day’s march away, at its middle.
The Castle was soon rebuilt in stone, and grew in significance over the subsequent centuries. Henry II created the Round Tower and the original stone outer wall. Following the English Civil War, the structure’s major role became that of a royal palace. The Castle has remained generally unaffected from the beginning of the 19th century, apart from the repair job right after the fire in 1992.
