Graduation Gown

During the ancient days, many universities had an elaborate code in which they wore their gowns daily during their academic pursuits. The modern graduation gown was worn either for social or formal purposes. During the 12th and 13th centuries, many of the graduations gowns were worn even in monasteries as a way of conveying peace and harmony in their daily activities. Black was the standard color with some golden trims for most of the early universities but some other institutions like monasteries wore white or brown gowns. Today the universities have adopted the same trend and are using the graduation gown to symbolize a completion of an academic level.
Nowadays, the graduation gown can be seen in many colors, this is because some institutions prefer to customize the color of the gowns to match with the color theme of the institution. This tradition of having gowns in different colors was started some years back and was adopted throughout most institutions. Most of the colors used represent a certain discipline, for example, white as inspired by white trimming is used to represent letters and arts, many churches use the symbol red and the red gowns are used to represent theologists, green which represents nature is used to symbolize medicine as used in the medieval herbs, olive is used to symbolize pharmacy and golden yellow represents the golden wealth of science research.
